Vampires, Lycans and Cabernet Sauvignon: How One Whim Turned into an Epic Underworld Weekend

Vampires, Lycans and Cabernet Sauvignon: How One Whim Turned into an Epic Underworld Weekend

Vampires, Lycans & Cabernet Sauvignon: How One Whim Turned into an Epic Underworld Weekend

Sometimes the best weekends don’t start with a plan, they start with a whim. One minute, my wife and I were casually talking about movies over dinner, and the next thing you know, we’re deep in the dark, brooding world of vampires and Lycans, sipping Cabernet like immortal royalty.

It all kicked off with an innocent comment:
“You know,” I said, “I actually kind of liked Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. That prequel was underrated.”

To my surprise, she raised an eyebrow and replied, “Yeah, I remember liking that one too.”

And just like that… boom. The decision was made. No long debate. No scrolling through streaming services for hours. We cued up Rise of the Lycans on a whim—and what started as a nostalgic dive into one movie turned into a full-blown Underworld marathon.

A Dark and Delicious Journey Through the Underworld Series

For those who haven’t had the pleasure (or the thrill), the Underworld series is a sleek blend of gothic horror, stylized action, and lore-rich storytelling. Vampires versus Lycans (werewolves, for the uninitiated), with a centuries-old feud and a leather-clad heroine named Selene who might be the most badass vampire this side of the big screen.

We started with Rise of the Lycans, technically the third film, but a prequel to the original. And wow, it holds up. The drama, the forbidden love story, the tragic ending… we were hooked. It didn’t take long before the next movie was playing, and then the next.
(Underworld > Underworld: Evolution > Underworld: Awakening > Underworld: Blood Wars)

The sequence may be a little twisty, but we didn’t care. We were in it.

Wine + Vampires = Perfect Pairing

Now, let’s talk ambiance. You can’t embark on a moody, gothic action binge without the right pairing—and we had just the thing: a bottle of J. Lo

J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles, decanted perfectly through our very own wine dispenser decanter. (This one, to be exact: Creative Fast Decanter Filter Wine Dispenser).

It’s the kind of decanter that doesn’t just aerate your wine—it elevates the experience. Smooth pours, no mess, and it looks downright cool next to a bowl of popcorn and a TV glowing with gothic blue tones.

With every swirl of Cab, every slow-motion vampire battle, and every growl from a Lycan, the weekend just got better and better.

Why This Weekend Was Unexpectedly Perfect

We didn’t fly to Napa. We didn’t make a reservation at a fancy restaurant. We didn’t even leave the house, to be honest. But we did do something a little spontaneous. We leaned into nostalgia. We embraced our inner vampire fans. And we sipped a truly excellent wine while doing it.

The lesson? Sometimes, all you need for a great weekend is:

  • A spark of a memory
  • A series you secretly love
  • A bottle of good wine
  • And a decanter that makes pouring it just as fun as drinking it

Want to Recreate the Vibe?

If this post has you itching to plan your own Underworld weekend—or any movie night, really—let me recommend two things:

  2. Explore our full collection at www.needwinestuff.com — we’ve got wine accessories for every vibe, whether you're throwing a Halloween party, having a chill date night, or planning your own spontaneous movie marathon.

Because great wine deserves great tools—and great weekends sometimes start with nothing but a whim and a “Hey, remember that movie?”

Cheers to good pours and even better surprises.
